Sure We Can (SWC) community compost program is devoted to reducing food waste directly within the Bushwick and East Williamsburg areas.

Sure We Can Compost is made from food scraps collected from local restaurants and coffee shops to be turned into high quality soil for community gardens and household plants. We use bicycles and trailers to pick up the food scraps. We process everything on site and by hand.

You can buy our compost at our location and support our organization, our people and our mission.

We divert 50 tons of organic waste from the landfill every year. We support the NYC's goal of "Zero Waste by 2030". We aim to create more local jobs and additional sources of income for the neighbors and canners. We hope this model can be replicated in other neighborhoods, lowering their carbon footprint and creating a more sustainable community.

how to recycle organic waste effectively within the local community, in an urban setting

For this summer and fall 2018 we are going to be conducting a pilot program on how to improve the processing of organic materials by the implementation of a research-study about different mechanisms of composting organic waste as well as further uses of methane as energy fuel.
