Dear friend,
Spring is almost upon us, and amidst the sheets of rain and occasional eclipse and earthquake (!!!), the magnolias and cherry blossoms are starting to peek out and herald milder days to come. It also means Earth Day is almost here, and as usual we’ve got an array of activities planned on McKibbin Street, so we can honor our overburdened planet!
First and foremost, a few days before the day itself, we’re throwing a benefit concert and party in collaboration with neighborhood allies Collective Focus, and inviting everyone who’s available to join us for a night of amazing live music and fun! We’ll have local bands Evolfo and Jairito Y La Onda, as well as DJ Kim the Beat and Tre D’Ambrocia providing music, and local vendors Unicorn Dynasty, Luxury Vandal, Crystal Hart, and more selling their products! It’ll be a ton of fun, and all proceeds will benefit Sure We Can and Collective Focus’ efforts to build community and connection in Brooklyn and beyond. Join us!
Then, on April 22nd, Earth Day itself, we’ll be having activities throughout the day, including a McKibbin Street cleanup, volunteer activities including sorting redeemables alongside our canner community members, and a discussion on our advocacy efforts to expand New York State’s Bottle Bill and effect real institutional change for the benefit of our planet! If you’re in NYC in mid-April, don’t miss these awesome chances to dig deeper into the landscape around environmental justice, culture, and sustainability in our unique urban environment!

La primavera está casi aquí, y adentro la lluvia muy fuerte y eclipses y terremotos (!!!) ocasionales, las magnolias y flores de cereza están empezando a mostrar las caras y anunciar los días más tranquilos que vienen. También significa que el Día de la Tierra casi ha llegado, y como siempre tenemos muchas actividades planeadas para hacer aquí en la calle McKibbin, ¡para honrar a nuestro planeta sobrecargado!
Primeramente, antes del día mismo, estamos presentando un concierto y fiesta en colaboración con nuestros aliados del barrio Collective Focus, e invitando a cada uno que está disponible para unirnos para una noche de música increíble en vivo, ¡y mucha diversión! Luego, el 22 de Abril, el Día de Tierra lo mismo, tendremos actividades durante el día, incluyen a una limpieza de la calle McKibbin, actividades voluntarias que incluyen a clasificar el reciclaje con los miembros de nuestra comunidad, y una discusión sobre nuestros esfuerzos de crecer el Ley de Envases de Nueva York, ¡y hacer cambios institucionales para mejorar la planeta!
