Today is Giving Tuesday!
… Surely I’ve heard that somewhere before….
Yes, indeed, I was informed that last Tuesday wasn’t the official day, it’s actually today. It all serves to make the whole thing feel even more absurd. Any Tuesday can be a giving day if we give! And, a lot can change in a week. New discoveries, new opportunities, surprises. With all the flux in the world right now, it can really feel like the ground I’m standing on shifts dramatically from day to day. In each new moment, things that used to seem indispensable can fall away; things that really matter can come into clearer focus.
I’m so grateful to Sure We Can for how it supports and challenges me in this way. It’s changed my perspective, and my life, to witness the work that canners do, and the significance it has for the society I live in today and for whatever hope that society has for a future. That work is evolving and unending, and it’s more than just recycling. It’s caretaking. Every day, there’s another can to pick up, a new connection to be part of, another challenge to overcome. If we’re present to them, these moments, small and large, can bring us closer to life and the responsibility we all share to care for it and for each other. To me, creating space for those possibilities is elemental to the deeper mission of our organization.

Hoy es “Un Día para Dar!”
… Estoy seguro que ya lo escuchaba antes….
Sí, yo estaba informado que el Martes pasado no fue el día oficial, actualmente es hoy. Todo sirve para hacer toda la idea tan absurda. ¡Cualquier Martes puede ser un día para dar si damos! Y, mucho puede cambiar en una semana. Nuevos descubrimientos, oportunidades, sorpresas. Con todo el cambio en el mundo ahora, puede sentir como la tierra sobre la que yo paro se mueve profundamente cada día. En cada momento nuevo, lo que parecía indispensable puede desprenderse; lo que realmente importa puede tener más claridad.
Estoy tan agradecido a Sure We Can por la manera en que me apoya y desafía. Ha cambiado mi perspectiva, y mi vida, por ver el trabajo que hacen los recicladores, y como significa para la sociedad que tenemos hoy y cualquier esperanza que tenemos para un futuro. Ese trabajo es evolucionando e interminable, y es más que reciclar. Es cuidado. Cada día, hay otra lata para coger, una nueva conexión para hacer, un otro reto para superar. Si estamos presentes para esos momentos, pequeños y grandes, puede traernos más cerca a la vida y la responsabilidad que cada uno tiene para cuidar para la vida y uno a otro. Para mi, hacer espacio para esas posibilidades es esencial para la misión más profunda de la organización.
