Our Essential Services! Two Weeks Left to Help!
Dear friend,
Since I last wrote to you, we’ve made some great strides in our effort to raise $30,000 before the end of the year to maintain our staffing and programs in 2026. We’re less than $6000 away from our goal, with only two weeks left! To those who have donated and helped us get this far, thank you so much–we’re incredibly grateful. For those who are still sitting on the fence, the time is now! Help us keep this unique work alive!
Usually when I want to convey to someone how meaningful Sure We Can’s work is, I invite them to tour our main site in East Williamsburg. It occurs to me that many of you may not have had that opportunity, so I thought I’d share with you a bit about the special programs we offer, that we’re so invested in continuing in the coming year.
At Sure We Can, we…
- Offer extra income to canners if they count and sort their own bottles, meaning they can earn up to 20% more here than other redemption centers;
- Provide onsite space for canners to count and sort, protected from the elements–an extreme rarity for workers who usually have to wait on the street to be served by other redemption centers;
- Offer onsite storage where canners can stow bottles and cans in between visits, letting them more easily access the extra payment for sorted materials, as well as have more agency over their work by having a secure place to store materials;
- Host meetings, workshops, trainings, activities, and celebrations that bring the community together, create contexts for organizing, activism, organic interaction, and cultural engagement that would be otherwise extremely hard to find;
- Run outreach programs to provide canners with reliable information on public health, supportive resources, or their rights;
- Create workforce development opportunities for canners to work wage-paying jobs that they can supplement with bottle-and-can income;
- Present cultural events like, concerts, plays, and exhibitions from artists where canners and the broader local community can encounter each other and together share, learn, and grow.
There is no other redemption center in New York that offers any of these services. If we are forced to reduce or retract a service, canners won’t be able to find it anywhere else. That’s why we’re working so hard to raise this money, and that’s why we need your help! If you haven’t yet, please consider giving today!

Desde la última vez que te escribí, hemos hecho un progreso bueno en nuestro esfuerzo de recaudar $30,000 antes del fin del año para mantener nuestra personal y programas en el año 2026. Estamos a menos de $6000 lejos de nuestra meta, ¡y sólo quedan dos semanas! Normalmente cuándo quiero compartir con uno cómo significante es el trabajo de Sure We Can, le invito a ver nuestro sitio primero en East Williamsburg. Me parece que algunos de Uds. no han tenido esta oportunidad, entonces tenía el pensamiento de compartir algo sobre los programas especiales que ofrecemos, que estamos tan invertidos en mantener en el año que viene.
En Sure We Can…
- Ofrecemos ganancia extra a recicladores si cuentan y clasifican sus propios materiales, que significa que pueden ganar al 20% más aquí que los otros centros;

- Presentamos reuniones, talleres, entrenamiento, actividades, y celebraciones que unen la comunidad, hacen contextos para organizar, el activismo, interacciones orgánicas, y conexiones culturales que son difíciles que encontrar en otros lugares;
- Hacemos programas para conectar recicladores con información fiable sobre la salud pública, recursos que pueden apoyarles, y sus derechos;
- Hacemos oportunidades de desarrollar el trabajo, en que los recicladores pueden ganar por hora y aumentar con botellas y latas;
- Presentamos eventos culturales cómo conciertos, obras de teatro, y exhibiciones de artistas en que los recicladores y la comunidad los demás pueden enfrentarlos uno a otro y juntos compartir, aprender, y crecer.
No hay otro centro de reciclaje en el estado de Nueva York que ofrezca estos servicios. Si estamos obligados a reducir o cancelar un servicio, los recicladores no pueden encontrarlo en otro lugar. Por esta razón estamos trabajando duro en recaudar fondos, ¡y por esta razón necesitamos tu ayuda! Si todavía no has hecho, ¡por favor considera donar hoy!
