Riven Opens Tonight!
Dear friend,
Tonight is opening night of Riven, a new play created by NYC-based theater artist Marina Zurita and her exciting team of collaborators, from stories and interviews with waste pickers in her native Brazil as well as here in NYC. I’m personally very proud to be presenting this piece, first because it’s an opportunity to uplift a work that centers and explores the voices and stories of our unique community that are so often hidden, and second because my relationship with Sure We Can began through my theater practice, and it feels right to pay that forward and continue to make space for art and performance in our community. We hope to keep this rolling and share more awesome performance and culture with you in the coming months and years–watch this space!
Tickets for tonight’s opening of Riven are sold out, but there’s still plenty of space for the rest of the run, which will last until June 27th!
Also, if you can’t make it to the show this weekend but still want to spend some time at Sure We Can and engage with our work and community, we’re having a counting and sorting volunteer activity this Saturday, June 14th. Esta noche es la apertura de Riven, una nueva obra de teatro hecha por la artista de teatro basada en NYC Marina Zurita y su equipo de colaboradores, de historias y entrevistas con recicladores en su país, Brasil, y también aquí en NYC. Personalmente estoy tan orgulloso que presentar este obra, porque es una oportunidad que compartir una obra que enfoca y explora las voces y historias de nuestra comunidad única que muchas veces son escondidas, y también porque mi relación con Sure We Can empezó por mi practico de teatro, y siente bien que seguir haciendo espacio para arte y performancia en nuestra comunidad. Esperemos que el programa siga y podamos compartir más presentaciones increíbles contigo en los meses y años que vienen–¡ver este espacio!
No hay más boletos para la apertura de Riven esta noche, pero todavía hay mucho espacio para las otras fechas, y sigue la obra hasta el 27 de junio!
