Spare an hour to pass the Bottle Bill?

It’s crunch time for the 2025 legislative session in New York State and we need to make sure the Bigger, Better Bottle Bill is on the tip of everyone’s tongue. We’ve made great progress; the bill has passed the NYS Assembly’s Environmental Conservation Committee. It’s up to us to push lawmakers and get them to keep it moving! At noon on Monday, June 9th and Tuesday June 10th, the Bottle Bill 40 coalition will be hosting power hours on Zoom in which activists like you can get together with organizers and other passionate New Yorkers to collectively take action. Don’t worry about preparing… we’ll have scripts and materials for you to use. All you need to do is show up online for an hour and you can make a huge difference! In more hyper-local news, Sure We Can is presenting throughout June Riven, a new play written and directed by Marina Zurita, focused on the lives and culture of waste pickers and drawn from her experiences interviewing workers in Brazil, as well as here in NYC. I came to Sure We Can through my theater practice, and it’s very exciting to be able to pay that energy forward by hosting this exciting community-focused artwork! The creators have put a lot of effort toward engaging with the community, and the presentations should be something really special, featuring food, music, and dance as well as the play. We’re hosting an opening party on 6/12 after the show–email me if you’re interested in that, as it’s currently sold out but more tickets may be added. Es el tiempo más intenso de la sesión legislativa del 2025 en el Estado de Nueva York y necesitamos asegurar que la Ley de Envases Más Grande y Mejor está en cada boca. En noticias más locales, Sure We Can está presentando durante el mes de junio Riven, una nueva obra de teatro escrito y dirigido por Marina Zurita, enfocado en las vidas y la cultura de los recicladores, y hecho por sus experiencias haciendo entrevistas con trabajadores en Brasil, y también aquí en NYC. Yo llegaba en Sure We Can por mi práctica de arte y teatro, y ¡estoy muy emocionado de empujar esta energía por delante de presentar esta obra interesante y enfocado en la comunidad! Los que han hecho la obra han usado mucha esfuerza en conectar con la comunidad, y las presentaciones deberían ser algo muy especial, con comida, música, y bailando juntado con la obra.
